On Tuesday, 29 November 2022 the disAbility Legal Network in collaboration with A&L Goodbody LLP marked the celebration of:

  • the International Day of Persons with Disabilities taking place on 3rd December 2022; and
  • the first anniversary of the launch of the website of the disAbility Legal Network.

Titled ‘The future of hybrid work: Opportunities & challenges for people with disabilities in the legal sector’, the event explored the impact of the cultural shift towards hybrid working in recent years on the lives of people with disabilities in the legal sector. It also explored how hybrid working can promote inclusion, and break down barriers for people with disabilities in the legal sector. A keynote speech was kindly provided by Joan O’Donnell, author and researcher behind the landmark report by Employers for Change and the Open Doors Initiative entitled “The future of work and disability – A remote opportunity“. Joan O’Donnell then joined a panel discussion moderated by Duncan Inverarity, Head of the employment law group at A&L Goodbody LLP, and:

  • Dr Patricia McCarthy, Research Fellow in the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin; and
  • Jane Barrett, Associate at William Fry LLP and founder/Chairperson of the disAbility Legal Network.
